Produced Water Treatment

As assets mature, and produced water volumes increase, operators face major problems in dealing with the resultant process issues. On the other side of the equation, increasingly stringent discharge specifications, including the implementation of CO₂ emission quotas, limit the disposal options open to the operator. Across the World, water production rates are five time oil production rates and rising, and in more mature areas the problem is even greater.

 

All these factors mean that produced water is no longer a simple waste stream. Equally the complexity of the problem is such that no single item of equipment is enough to mitigate the problem, and a truly integrated approach is therefore needed to address all aspects of the process.
